How booking and entry work
The rules in force since the new visitor regulations of 2026.
Pick a time slot
You choose the date and the time when you buy, online or at the ticket office. Arrive within your slot, and allow time for the security check at the door.
One ticket, one entry
The ticket belongs to one person and allows a single entry. You cannot leave and come back in with the same ticket, so plan a coffee stop before you go in or after you leave.
Check the final total
Look at the full price at the last step of checkout, whichever seller you use. Add-ons such as an audio guide or a tour are priced separately.
Special exhibitions
General admission includes the exhibitions that run at the same time as your visit. During the free evening hours, special exhibitions are not free but carry a 50% discount. The museum can close rooms temporarily without a refund, so a particular painting is never guaranteed.
Pick the right door
The Goya entrance serves the ticket offices and the collection. The Jerónimos entrance serves the collection and special exhibitions and is the preferred access for visitors with reduced mobility. Assignments can change, so follow the signs on the day.
Entrances and bag rules →Is the Paseo del Arte pass worth it?
One price for the Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen.
The Paseo del Arte pass costs €32.80 and gives one entry to each of the three museums. It is valid for 1 year from the day you buy it, and you do not have to use it on one day. Separate full tickets cost €15 for the Prado, €12 for the Reina Sofía and €14 for the Thyssen, which makes €41. The pass therefore saves €8.20, or 20%.
That saving only exists if you would pay full price everywhere. If you are under 18, a student or over 65 at the Reina Sofía, you already enter free or at a reduced rate, and the pass adds nothing. Where entry is limited by capacity, pass holders collect a time pass at the museum's ticket office, so the pass is not a promise to walk in without any wait.
Prado tickets: frequently asked questions
How much does a Prado ticket cost?
General admission is €15 in 2026. People over 65, holders of a recognised youth pass and large-family card holders pay €7.50. Several groups enter free with proof.
Do I need to book a time slot?
You choose a date and a time when you buy, online or at the ticket office. Because slots are part of the purchase, booking ahead lets you pick the time that suits you.
Can I leave and come back with the same ticket?
No. A ticket is personal and allows a single entry. Leaving and entering again with it is not allowed.
Do students get in free?
Students aged 18 to 25 enter free with proof. The ticket shop gives the limit as under 25 and the price page as 18 to 25, so check the age at booking. Certain art students over 25 in the Spanish system are also free.
Does the ticket include special exhibitions?
Yes, the exhibitions running at the same time are included in general admission. In the free evening hours they carry a 50% discount instead of being free.
Are tickets from other sellers valid?
Many sellers offer entry bundled with a guide or a set entry time. Compare what is included, the meeting point and the cancellation terms before you buy.
